Alfred Grossman

July 6, 1925 — July 13, 2017

Alfred “Holt” Grossman, 92, of Wooster, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, July 13, 2017 at West View Healthy Living.
Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, Wooster. Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Ken Thomas officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, where military rites will be held.
Holt was born July 6, 1925 in Wooster to Alfred Henry and Leone {Bogner} Grossman.
He married Doris E. Reich on August 22, 1954. She passed away on January 29, 2009.
Holt proudly served his country in WWII earning two Bronze Battle Stars and three medals. After serving in the U.S. Army he went on to become an owner/operator of a tractor-trailer rig driving for a company located in Massillon, retiring in 1987. Holt was a member of the First Church of God of Wooster. He was a member of Holmesville American Legion. Holt enjoyed camping, fishing, working on cars and trucks. He started his own side work of working with wood, HoDo Carpentry. Holt loved spending winters in their summer home in Florida. He was a man of many wonderful qualities, but he will be remembered especially for being a good man with courage, compassion and integrity. His quick wit and humorous comebacks made everyone laugh. A man of friendship, his friends knew they could always count on his support. His love of children and animals was always returned to him, especially by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and by Tinker Belle, the grand dog.
Holt will be deeply missed by his children Joyce (Sam) Vura, Linda (Larry) Ungerer, and Frank Grossman all of Wooster; grandchildren Sammy (Michelle) Vura, Whitney (Ben) Hamilton, Dalon (Rheanna Troyer) Vura, Kevin (wife Kelly Covey) Ungerer, and Valerie (Brett) Coble; great-grandchildren Cody Coble, Elizabeth and Brook Ungerer, Luca Pereira.
Holt was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, brother Myron Grossman, sisters Irene Dunkle and Ruth Weirick.
The family is grateful to West View Healthy Living and its staff, along with the staff at Crossroads Hospice.
II Timothy 4:7-8: “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them that love His appearing.”
