Wooster

Annabel L. Armstrong, 94, of Wooster, went home to be with the Lord on Thanksgiving night November 23, 2023. She died peacefully after an illness of five days.

Annabel was born September 29, 1929, in Rittman to Floyd and Ada Belle {Hoffman} Hoover. She was a 1948 graduate of Rittman High School. As a young person, she developed a lifelong appreciation for flowers (gladiolas and irises) and music (trombone in the Rittman marching band).

She was united in marriage to Richard C. Armstrong on July 31, 1949, they were married 65 years.

In addition to her integral role in the family poultry business alongside her husband, Annabel distinguished herself as a beloved fixture at the Green Leaf, where she dedicated decades of her life as a waitress. Dick and Annabel were members of Grace Church and served there over many years. Annabel taught Sunday school, enjoyed singing in the choir and with the Good News Trio.

Annabel worked at the Wooster Brush Company in the 1960’s, then waitressed at the Green Leaf Restaurant for nearly 20 years. She also contributed to the family farm operation. Upon retirement, the couple enjoyed wintering in Mesa, Arizona for 24 years.

Family was the joy of Annabel’s heart. Picnics and birthdays parties were her delight, especially when surrounded by the little ones of the family. She had 10 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Her living room displayed an abundance of photo frames featuring these young ones dear to her heart.

Annabel will be deeply missed by son Robert (Roxanne) Armstrong of Wooster; daughter Janice (Kenneth) Wiles of Creston; 10 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; sisters Marian Baldwin of Wadsworth, and Carolyn (Robert) McElroy of Rittman.

Annabel was preceded in death by her husband Dick, her parents, and her brothers Harold and Wayne Hoover.
