Anthony Joseph Matherne

Anthony Joseph Matherne, 65, of Mount Vernon, OH, passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at surrounded by his loving family at Knox Community Hospital, in Mount Vernon.

Anthony was born August, 25th, 1959 in New Orleans, LA to Edmond John and Ivy May {Hebert} Matherne.  He has been with Elizabeth Anne Prestenbach since December 19th, 1977. 

Anthony enjoyed his dog Dayze. He liked watching wrestling and drinking coffee. He was a very laid-back person who enjoyed being outdoors and watching trees, especially when they turned colors in the fall. He cared for Elizabeth for nearly 50 years, always careful to keep her safe. 

Anthony will be deeply missed by Elizabeth and his children Penny (Wendell) Cox, Kevin (Jessica) Matherne; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild and his sisters Ivy May Blanda, Deloris Gordon.  Anthony was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Edmond Jr, Alvin, Allen and his sisters Alice Breaux, Mary Matherne.
