Arthur Louis Walter, 90, of Ashland, went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, February 4, 2022 at Ohio Health Hospital in Mansfield surrounded by his loving family.
Art was born on December 6, 1931 in Valley City, Ohio to John and Clara (Scheaffer) Walter. After graduating high school from Sullivan, he was drafted into the United States Marine Corp where he served from 1951-1953. He earned a purple heart and a gold star in the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he worked with his father in the family business. Through a mutual friend he met Donna Drushell, the love of his life. They married on March 17, 1956 and together built a life they loved. In 1966 he went to work for General Motors as a tool and dye attendant. After retiring from GM, Art worked part-time for Taco Bell in Ashland for twenty years.
He was a notorious tease, always joking with family members and friends, never meeting a stranger. Art was an avid card player and loved spending time with family. You would often see both Art and Donna at their grandkids’ events. They enjoyed their winters in Florida for several years. Art was a member of Grace Church, Ashland.
Art will be deeply missed by his wife, Donna, and their eight children; Debbie (Ron) Zeigler, Mark (Mary) Walter, Vickie (Jay) Olney, Cathy (Gail) Fulk, Mike (Lisa) Walter, Jeannie (Terry) Farver, Max Walter, and Matthew (Jenny) Walter, seventeen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and sister Carol Dassel.
In addition to his parents, Art was preceded in death by his brothers Gilbert Walter, Richard Walter, Carl Walter, and sister Annie Patton.
