Bobby 'Bob' Moorer

Bobby (Bob) G. Moorer was born on April 14, 1948, in Williamson, West Virginia, to parents Frances M. Davis and Alde Moorer. Bob was an adventurous young man which would later guide his career choices.

In 1962, Bob developed an affinity for archery from his uncle. He quickly became an archery enthusiast. He joined several archery clubs from coast to coast. Bob purchased world-class bows and equipment that allowed him to participate nationally and internationally in archery tournaments and quickly amassed a high collection of medals for his outstanding performances.

Bob graduated from Williamson High School in 1967 and immediately joined the United States Air Force. Although a recent high school graduate, Bob still needed his parents’ signature to enlist. Bob would be the first member of his family to leave home and serve his country. Family hugs and lots of good wishes at the bus station were the cornerstones to his successful basic training and world adventures.

The Air Force was the perfect vehicle to begin his lifelong journey to see the world. Bob was assigned to several European countries to protect and fight for us in the Desert Storm and Vietnam wars.

When Bob was assigned to Germany he married, and 3 children were born from this union.

In 1973, Bob moved to Hesperia, CA. And was later re-deployed back to Germany in 1980. He served there until 1984. After his tour in Germany, Bob returned to the states and resided in Northern California until he retired in 1994.

Bob was always seeking new knowledge and loved to learn, that is why he continued his quest for higher education and received a master’s degree in aviation from Illinois University.

After retiring from the military, Bob found his employment fit at TXI riverside and eventually retired for the 2nd time in 2011. Not before finding the love of his life Sherry Bishop, in which he dated for seven years and later married in 2010 until his passing.

Bob and Sherry’s love story was one that most people could only dream of. Bob-and I got to really live, love, and experience all the great things love produce it, and what a wonderful life it was. Bob, you will always have my heart because it will always be one heartbeat for us.

Bob was a wonderful husband, father, brother relative, and friend. Bob loved fishing, walking, golfing, and listening to old-school joints and would often get up and bust a move, especially when I was doing my version of Michael Jackson’s moonwalk, (how hysterical that was).

He had a personality that would make you smile and instantly connect with you.

Bob moved to South Carolina, was re-baptized, and became a member of the Methodist Church, where he served on the church council board the United Methodist Men’s group. He also was a member of the VFW Post 58, in Dunnellon, Florida

Bob leaves a legacy of caring, his love of family, patience, guidance, teaching, and providing. He was Sincere, kind even when Bob underwent spine surgery, doctors said he would be disabled, but he never let that stop him from enjoying what he loved. He re-learned Archery while suffering pain daily but always maintained a smile and a kind word. he was terrific; the doctors were surprised at his progress and determination that nothing was going to keep down.

Bob credits his wife for his support system and life challenges that helped him get thru., but little did he know it was God working thru me and his perseverance and love that got him through because he refused to be dispirited. Please remember Bob as a man of integrity, dignity, strength, loyal, kindness, and always providing for his family.

Bob leaves behind to mourn his Death: Shirley Moorer, (Wife), Vanessa, Gerald, Miriam Moorer (Children),  Nathaniel Moorer-Martinez (Grandson), Eric Bishop (Stepson), John Moorer (Brother), Rhonda Stabler (Sister), Chandra Moorer and Leona Moorer (Sisters-in-law); and hosts of nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Rick Moorer and Gerald Moorer.
