Burtle Jernigan

Burtle Jernigan, 86, of Wadsworth, died peacefully Saturday, October 18, 2008 at The Inn at Medina Hospice.


Services will be Tuesday at 11am at the Ambassador Baptist Church.Friends may call Monday from 6 to 8 pm at the Roberts Funeral Home – Hillcrest Chapel, Wadsworth.Online tributes may be made at www.robertsfuneralhome.com .Memorial contributions may be made to Neurofibromatosis, Inc., PO Box 66884, Chicago, IL 60666 or National Parkinson Foundation, 1501 NW 9 th Ave., Bob Hope Rd, Miami, FL, 33136-1494.


Burt was born November 25, 1921 in Crossville, TN to Burton Lee and Eliza Jane {Howard} Jernigan.He served in the US Army during WWII.Following the war, Burt married Elizabeth Burke on October 12, 1947.


Burt worked for Ohio Boxboard (PCA) for 33 years, retiring in 1983.He was a member of the Ambassador Baptist Church, VFW, and American Legion.He enjoyed stamp collecting, traveling, and camping.Burt said his favorite trip was to Nashville because that’s where he met his wife.


In addition to his wife, Burt will be deeply missed by his daughter Christina (Larry) McMahan of Burnsville, NC; grandchildren Richard Whitacre, Justin Kelly, and Tori (Douglas) Wilfred nee Whitacre; great-grandchildren Mikyla, Aleyna, and Lance Wilfred and Kyle Whitacre; brother Todd Jernigan of Barberton; and a sister Alice Faye (Clyde) Bloomfield of Norton.


Burt is preceded in death by a daughter Elizabeth Renée Whitacre, brothers Haskell, Eugene, Raymond, and Edgar Ray Jernigan.
