Carl J. Walter, 79, of Ashland, died October 27, 2014 at Hospice of North Central Ohio, in Ashland.
Carl was born October 14, 1935 in Valley City, Ohio to John and Clara {Scheafer} Walter.
After high school, Carl served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He retired from General Motors after 33 years. He also carried a real estate license in Ohio and Indiana. Upon retirement, Carl did seasonal work at Brookside Golf Course in Ashland.
He married Shirley Miller on June 3, 1961.
He was a member of St. Edwards Catholic Church in Ashland. He was a member of the Elyria American Legion. Carl previously volunteered as an Auxiliary Policeman and was an assistant Weeblos Cub Scout Leader during the 1970s. Most of his adult life he was an avid bowler and was a member of various leagues. He also enjoyed golfing. Using a 9 Iron, Carl hit a 95 yard hole-in-one at Hedgewood Golf Course.
Carl will be deeply missed by his wife Shirley of 53 years; son Carl J. Walter II; grand-daughter Lisa (Brian) Lash; great-grandchild Emerson Lash; brothers Richard (Rita) Walter of Cleveland, Arthur (Donna) Walter of Ashland; sister Carol Dassel of Prattville, AL.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, brother Gilbert Walter, and sister Anna McKean.
Friends may call Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home- Ashland Chapel, Ashland. Funeral services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Edwards Catholic Church with Father Rob officiating. Burial will be at Ashland County Memorial Park.
