Charles "Charlie" W. Shane, 87, of Orrville, passed away February 13, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Friends may call Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. and Monday from 10-11 a.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, Wooster. Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Tim Hull officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, where military rites will be held. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to LifeCare Hospice, 2525 Back Orrville Road, Wooster, Ohio, 44691.
Charlie was born March 15, 1926 in Marshallville, Ohio to James Paul and Martha Elizabeth (Lance) Shane.
Charlie married Dorothy "Dottie" M. Frase on April 25, 1947. She survives.
He served in the Army as a Military Policeman during World War II and retired from Wayne Dalton Door in Mt. Hope in 1988; where he was a truck driver.
He enjoyed building and racing stock cars, hunting with family and friends "down on the hill" in WV. He liked camping, fishing and listening to bluegrass music. Charlie was a member of the American Legion, Marshallville post 718. He enjoyed building airplanes from pop cans, watching his grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's sporting activities.
Charlie will be deeply missed by his wife Dottie of 66 loving years; children Tom (Diana) Shane of Wooster, Ron (Ramona) Shane, Connie (Mick) Clark both of Orrville and Jacqueline (Ralph Van Dueck) Shane of CA.; grandchildren Terry (Rochelle) Shane, Bryan Shane, Gloria Freewalt, Chuck Conway, Shawn (April) Shane, Nick Humrichouser, Kristopher (Stephanie) Clark, Mark T. Clark and Derek Clark; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters Wanda Nussbaum, Mary Ellen Neiss and Louella (Ronald) Birkbeck all of Orrville, sister's-in-law Margaret Shane of Dalton, Phyllis Shane of Massillon and Linda Shane of FL.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, brothers James, Robert, Frank and David Shane and sisters Mildred Wright, Lillian Wright, Beulah Goudy and Donna Osborne, and brother's-in-law Cecil Wright, Earl "Guy" Wright, Lloyd Goudy, Russ Nussbaum, Noah Lee Osborne, Ellsworth "Cy" Goudy, Earl Neiss, and sister-in-law Rosann Shane.
The family would especially like to thank their family, friends and the entire staff from LifeCare Hospice that had a hand in dad's care; and also the VA for the care they gave to him.
