Clayton Ellsworth Martin

February 12, 1983 — June 24, 2023

Wooster

Clayton Ellsworth Martin, 40, of Wooster was called home to be with our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, June 24th, 2023.

He was 40 years old and was from Ashland/Wooster. At an early age, Clayton's 'Mamaw & PaPaw Martin' instilled in him the value of family. He had an especially close brotherhood with his cousin Mark all throughout his precious life. Clay's father taught him guitar, and he dreamt of passing their passion and talent on to his own son.

He married Stacey Sheriff on January 1, 2009.

It happened sooner rather than later as Clayton ran toward responsibility when he committed to Stacey and her girls when he was 18. Soon after, the son he'd dreamt of came along. While in the hospital healing from open-heart surgery, he insisted on marrying the love of his life. He was also a jokester, helping hand and a workhorse who made sure to take in a concert regularly. Trips to West Virginia soothed his soul, as did his trips hunting with his stepdad. He often expressed that being taken under the wing of his father- in-law helped him personally, professionally and landed him many 'Fish Ohio' accolades. He refused to leave the woods until he found enough trophy Morels to be able to pull some from the freezer any time of the year. He took great pride in passing along his tips, tricks & secret spots to his eternally loved children & grandchildren. His sense of humor made everyone laugh, but he sure was serious when it came to being 'Mommy's Little Prince.' Friends weren't friends, they were family. He loved and respected his 5-Star Landscaping family. Clayton considered his greatest responsibility and blessing to be the best 'PaPaw' ever. It's no surprise Clayton achieved that as well. Dedicated and driven, he took on any challenge. Any battles he faced were hard won, but he overcame them- always giving God the glory.

Our sweet & ornery Clayton is survived by his devoted partner & wife of 22 years, Stacey Sheriff-Martin; daughters Kelcey Sheriff (Dane Cole), Kayleigh Sheriff, son Stephen Robert-Ellsworth Martin. His mother Christine Rannels (Bob Bowersock); sisters Jessica Walters, Jennifer Tasker (David Acres); Brother Ben Martin; Aunts Mary Horne, Lori Lehman, Heidi Robinson, Cheri Booth, Vicky Sours; Uncle Robert Martin. He also leaves behind sisters-in-law Stephenie Sheriff and Sarah DeAngel and each of his 12 nieces and 11 nephews.  Also surviving are his best bud/ father-in-law 'Pappy' (Steve Sheriff) and immensely adored grandchildren Deklyn, Faylynn, Ember, and Eleena. Fur babies: Ginger, Lilly and Pumpkin.

Proceeded in Death by his Grandparents Clayton and Donna Horne, Robert and Barbara Martin; Great Grandparents Harold and Jeanie Baker, Jesse and Dorothy Querry, Great grandmother Stella Spalvieri, Mother-in-Law Deborah Sheriff and her father Charles "Boompa" Loftis.
