Clyde C. Sayers, 89, Ashland's finest watchmaker, passed away on July 12, 2014 at Brethren Care Village in Ashland.
Clyde was born in Everett, PA to Harry and Lilly Mae Sayers on June 15, 1925.
Clyde followed in his father's footsteps as a watchmaker. He was a graduate of Western Pennsylvania Horological Institute of Pittsburgh, PA.
Clyde came to Ashland in 1948 as watchmaker for Leibfarth's Jewelry until its closing. He then became the watchmaker at Laubscher's Jewelry in Mansfield until his retirement. He continued to repair clocks and watches from his home for his enjoyment.
Clyde had been a member of the early Ashland Jaycees and Kiwanis. He had been an active member of the Ashland YMCA, earning a lifetime membership. Clyde participated in jogging events. He was a member of Saint Edward's Church. He was an avid euchre player at the Council on Aging.
Clyde was preceded in death by his wife, Helyn, Ocotber 29, 2010, after 62 years of marriage, and his sisters Maryellen Guytan, Olive DeCarlo, Lula McCrady, and Evelyn Samuel.
He is survived by sister Sara Miller of PA, son Richard (Lori) Sayers of Marietta, GA, daughter Nevanka (Charles) Fulk of Ashland, sister-in-law Irene Paul of PA, grandchildren Melissa (Scott) Hodges of San Diego, CA, Matthew Sayers of Toledo, Melanie Sayers of Stow, Donovan Kelley of Ashland, and great-grandchildren Summer Osborne and Chloe Hodges.
Private services have taken place.
