Dale F. Tupy, 91, passed away Thursday December 28, 2023 at Danbury Woods in Wooster.
Dale was born in Ft. Atkinson, Iowa with his ensuing childhood years spent in Waterloo, Iowa. He graduated in 1950 from Sacred Heart Academy in Waterloo. He then attended Telegraphy school in Marshalltown and subsequently worked as a Telegrapher and Depot Agent for the Illinois Central Railroad.
In 1952 he entered military service with his basic training completed in Ft. Riley, Kansas. He subsequently served his military duties during Korean conflict as a Radio CW (Morse) Code Operator, and he then returned to Waterloo, Iowa.
While in the employment of the Titus Mfg company as a welder and during this time he was also attending Gate Business College.
In 1958 he married the love of his life, Dorothy Schwartz of Evansdale. Upon graduating from college, he was employed by the General Tire and Rubber Company (now Continental Tire) as an accountant in their local retail store. Within two years he was promoted within the company to a larger retail facility in Omaha Nebraska. After spending a couple of years in that responsibility he was promoted to Operations/ Accounting Supervisor, retail stores throughout the Midwest.
He served in this tenure until 1967 and was then transferred to the General Offices located in Akron, Ohio. He continued getting promoted and became the Manager of Accounting and then subsequently to Manager of Field Operations, Retail Stores Division. One of his latter accomplishments was his role in management relating to the conversion of each of the company’s individual retail stores manual accounting system to automated accounting in all locations throughout the United States, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and Canada. He retired as Manager of Field Operations in 1992 after 36 years of service. After his retirement he and his wife Dorothy wintered in Florida and subsequently enjoyed traveling throughout the West.
From 1967 to 1992 he live in Suffield, Ohio and then they moved to Wooster, Ohio. Upon relocation to Wooster, he was voted in as Treasure of the local Homeowners Association and simultaneously the Treasurer and Secretary for the Wayne County Radio Controlled Flying Club.
In August of 2017, Dale and Dorothy moved into Danbury Senior Living in Wooster. Dale was a wonderful husband and father. He always tried to maintain a close relationship with all his family members. He relinquished his golfing and his Ham Radio hobby in 2002 and devoted all of his spare time to the building and flying of radio-controlled model airplanes.
His parents, Victor and Emma Tupy preceded him in death in addition to his wife Dorothy, sisters Dorothy Farr and Norma Fairbanks both on Iowa.
Dale will be deeply missed by his son David of Louisville, Daughters Diana Walsh of Cuyahoga Falls and Dr. Debra Fast of Wooster; daughter in law Jill Tupy; grandchildren Michael (Megan), Marisa Tupy, Kaitlyn, and Cameron Fast; two nieces, two nephews, two grand nieces and two great grand nieces.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 7 pm at Roberts funeral home. Funeral service will be held Friday at 11 am. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens where military honors will be held. Memorial contributions may be donated to the Alzheimers Foundation. A special Thank you goes to the staff at Danbury Woods Senior Living in Wooster and Dr. Dana Bonezzi for their loving and exceptional care.
