Darrell Allen Hershiser, 69, of Ashland, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Good Shepherd Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Campus.
Darrell was born September 9, 1948 in Willard to Virgil Perry and Lucille Alberta {Rang} Hershiser.
He married Linda Ganzhorn on January 11, 1969. She died March 12, 2015.
Soon after graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy. At the request of several Naval Officers, He obtained a Top Secret crypto access security clearance and was trained as a cryptographic radioman. He was honorably discharged after serving 4 years during the Vietnam War.
Upon Discharge, Darrell began a quest to further his education. After 7 years of working full time and attending college, he graduated with a Bachelor of Business Management degree, cum laude, from Ashland University.
He worked 30 years in the materials management field for several notable companies including, Chrysler Corp, Johnson Controls and Emerson Electric.
He spent his last 10 years in the transportation industry.
Darrell enjoyed any and all kinds of fishing. He was an avid football fan, following several teams especially The Ohio State Buckeyes. He also enjoyed spending time with family and with a special eye on his granddaughter Kensley.
He is survived by his sons Jason (Rebekah) Hershiser of Massillon, Ryan (Veronica) Hershiser of Ashland, granddaughter Kensley; sister Yvonne Gardner, brother Karl (Sylvia) Hershiser; and several nieces and nephews.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, oldest son Derek and wife Linda (Ganzhorn) Hershiser.
Friends may call Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Ashland Chapel, Ashland. Services will be Friday at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Ashland County Memorial Park.
