Debra "Deb" Ann Zimmerman, 60, of Orrville, traded her battle scars for angel wings and went home to be with God, Saturday, April 22, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous and hard fought battle with breast cancer over the last 12 years.
Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 3 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, Wooster. Services will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Tim Broughton officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to National Breast Cancer Foundation, 2600 Network Blvd, Suite 300, Frisco, TX 75034.
Deb was born June 17, 1956 in Mt. Vernon to Cecil Dean and Marilyn Maxine {Bookman} Matthews.
She graduated from Loudonville High School in 1974.
She married Raymond G. Zimmerman on October 14, 1989. He survives.
Deb worked at Rubbermaid in Wooster for 13 years and ChemSpec USA for 10 years. She also held a variety of jobs through the years including Coburn, Inc, and one of her personal favorites, Colonial Manor Nursing Home. Deb loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed mushroom hunting in Michigan, frog gigging at Shreve Swamps, camping, swimming and working at the snack bar at Long Lake Park, and picnicking and hiking at Mohican State Park and various other places. Deb was an avid crafter who made ornaments for her grandchildren every Christmas. Baking and cooking for others gave her great pleasure and she was always crocheting blankets and other things for herself and of course to give to her loved ones. Deb was a member of New Hope Church in Wooster, where she was baptized and gave her life to the Lord. She loved her church family and served as a greeter as often as she could. Deb was very grateful to be a member of many support groups that helped each other cope with all of the various stages of their battles against cancer.
Deb will be deeply missed by her husband of 28 years; children Brandi (David) {Burkepile} Jessie, Jeremy Burkepile, Mitchell (Debbie) Zimmerman and Mark Zimmerman; a multitude of grandchildren whom she dearly loved; brother Dennis (Linda) Matthews; sister Marcia (Ronald) Freund; and many other family members and friends who are too abundant to mention by name.
Deb was preceded in death by her parents.
To know her was to love her. To be known by her was to be loved. She will live on in the hearts of us all and will be greatly missed until the day we are reunited with her again in Heaven.
The family on behalf of Deb and ourselves would like to thank those involved in all aspects of her care and everyone who has supported us during this long and hard fought journey. We love you all. Deb was a devoted and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, family member, friend and fighter to the very end.
