Delmar Eugene Wittekind, 77, passed away Monday, December 21, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born December 30, 1937 in Germantown, Ohio to William R. and Fay {nee Hendershot} Wittekind.
Delmar graduated Marietta High School in 1955. Earlier in life, he raced stock cars. Later, he enjoyed riding his Harley and watching NASCAR. He was an avid Dale Earnhardt fan.
He worked many jobs during his lifetime and was most proud to have worked at Marietta Silver Globe for 40 years as a glass gazing globe blower. Delmar married his wife Nancy of 43 years on December 22, 1972.
He is survived by his wife Nancy; 2 sons Tony (Stephanie) Wittekind of Lowell and William Joy (Angie Sams) of Belpre; 5 daughters Debra (Mike) Leffew of Salisbury, NC, Julia (Boyd) Evans of Marietta, Cara (Dean) Canter of Marietta, Jackie (Steve) Carpenter of Independence, KY, and Carol (Rob) Fisher of Bradenton, FL; daughter-in-law Leslie Wittekind of Marietta; 18 grandchildren Sheri Lynn Harding, Michael Leffew, Kendra Canter, Anthony Canter, Tyler Wittekind, Cody Wittekind, Chasady McDowell, Lysandra Jagusch, Greg Joy, Austin Wittekind, Derick Zimmerman, Chace Wittekind, Ashley Evans, Matt Evans, Scott Evans, Alexa Crawford, Briana Crawford and Eric Crawford; 12 great grandchildren and his beloved pitbull Diesel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Delmar Wittekind II; daughter Billie Jo; grandsons Steven Carpenter and Alex Joy; and his first wife Rhea Dawn.
Delmar will be cremated and there will be no services at this time. Friends and family will celebrate his life at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff of Marietta Hospice and Roberts Funeral Home.
