Don Flenniken, 79, of Wooster, died Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Akron City Hospital, in Akron Ohio.

Don was born February 11, 1933 in Steubenville, OH to John and Gertrude {Harris} Flenniken.
Don worked in Ohio Education as a high school biology teacher for 10 years and retired in 1972. He then went to work for Goodwill Industries as a supervisor for 20 years and retired in 1990.
Don was one of the founders of Ohio Moss and Lichen Association. He authored the books: The Macrolichens in West Virginia and New River Gorge Project: Lichens of the Rocky Cliffs. He co-authored The Macrolichens of Ohio. He also published numerous lichen articles.
Don will be deeply missed by his daughters Diane (Peter) Schwendeman of Newark, OH, and Lois Flenniken of Malta, Ohio; special friend Naomi Mathew and her family of Smithville; and Shirley Frye, mother of Don's two daughters; grandchildren Josh (Jenny) Gilliland, Damon (Delaney) Gilliland, Justin (Laura) Weaver, and Sarah Keirns; 7 great-grandchildren; brother John Flenniken of Steubenville.
Don was preceded in death by his brother Jay Flenniken, grandaughter Faith Anna Semon and son-in-law Jerry Semon.
