Donald Eugene Smedley, 84, of Wooster, Ohio passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at Wooster Community Hospital after a brief illness.
Don was born November 26, 1931 in Wooster to Harlan Smedley and Florence Matty. From an early age Don showed a gift of ingenuity for mechanical design and repair. He was a mechanic in the United States Army during the Korean War. He married Dorothy (Dori) Ruth Smith in 1983. Don was owner operator of Smedley`s Transmission Service for more than 57 years. Don was a lifetime member of Smithville United Methodist Church, Cedar Valley Cloggers, The Gnat Boxers Square Dance Club, and Goldwing Road Riders Association. He completed multiple trips, East and West, across the U.S. accompanied by his wife Dori in the sidecar. He also cherished shorter jaunts for ice cream with his daughter.
Don will be deeply missed by his children Brad (Rae) Smedley of Beachwood, Brian (Chris) of Shreve and Dawn (Dan) Wagner of Wooster and step-children Pamela (David) Buchart of Cumming, GA and Jennifer (Ron) Mileti of Scottsdale, AZ; siblings Jim Wall, Ed, Larry, and Dick Smedley, Susan (David) Cartwright and Linda (Gordon) Bigger. Don was lovingly known as "Pops" to his grandchildren Laura (Matt) Walker, Rachel (Christopher) Ramos, Catherine Smedley, Matthew Smedley and Steven Smedley and great grandchildren Adrian, William and Wyatt Walker and Wren Smedley Ramos. Don was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Dori.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate Don's life on May 18, 2016 at 7:00 PM at Smithville United Methodist Church with Rev. Carolyn M. Berry officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 PM and 5:00-7:00 PM prior to the service.
