Duane Ahrens

June 29, 1944 — February 12, 2017

Duane Eugene Ahrens, 72, of Wooster, died unexpectedly Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Wooster Community Hospital.
Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, Wooster. Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Grace Church with Pastor Bob Fetterhoff officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, where military rites will be held. Online tributes may be made at www.RobertsFuneralHome.com. Duane was born June 29, 1944 in Ravenna, Ohio to Leland and Dorothy {Bessler} Ahrens.
He graduated from Crestwood High School in 1962. He served in the US Navy on the USS Oriskany from 1962 to 1967 aboard the USS Oriskany making several trips to Vietnam and Hong Kong.
He married Barbara "Sharon" Blackburn on December 20, 1969. They shared a loving relationship that will be cherished forever and missed everyday.
Duane worked for IBM as a customer engineer for 39 years before retiring. He later worked for General Rent-All in customer service. Duane attended Grace Church for 20 years. He was a member and past president of Vietnam Veterans of America. In his spare time Duane enjoyed working on projects with his children and playing with his grandchildren, who he adored. He volunteered his time at the Trinity UCC Breakfast Program, at the church and various organizations and charities over the years. Duane lived his life with few regrets and always made the most of every day, leaving a lasting impression on those who knew him.
Duane will be deeply missed by his wife; children Eric (Missy) Ahrens of Lake Charles, LA, Jennifer (Mike) Englehaupt of Las Vegas, NV, Jason (Kelly) Ahrens of Wooster, Mark (Mei) Ahrens of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren Eric Jr., Robert, Tyler, Abby, Mackenzi, Trent, Brayden, Liam; brothers Albert (Clara) and Bruce (Sue) Ahrens both of Ravenna.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents and brother Norman Ahrens.
