Emma Bowman

March 25, 1920 — June 15, 2014

Emma Louise (Markley) Bowman, 94, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 15, 2014, following a period of declining health.
Friends may call Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, Wooster. Funeral services will be Thursday at 3 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Shawn Hilliard officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Online tributes may be made at www.RobertsFuneralHome.com. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to the Chippewa Church of the Brethren, 10230 Honeytown Road, Creston, Ohio 44217.
Emma was born March 25, 1920 to Isaac and Jennie {Rock} Markley in Wadsworth, Ohio.
She married Max Bowman on February 14, 1946. She lived all of her married life in Creston, Ohio.
She was a homemaker, wonderful baker, seamstress, and quilter. Every year Emma made dresses with coats for her daughters at Easter and was very proud of the wedding dresses she made for their special day. She belonged to the local mother's club and helped with 4-H projects and was a Cub Scout den mother. She was a stay-at-home mom to her four children, and when they entered school, she worked in the cafeteria at Norwayne High School for 10 years. Emma graduated from Creston High School in 1938. She worked at the Packaging Corporation of America after graduation from high school.
She belonged to the Chippewa Church of the Brethren and was a Sunday school teacher. She loved traveling to Colorado and Virginia to visit her sons and their families and enjoyed visiting the historical sites along the way. In her leisure time she enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles.
Emma will be deeply missed by her children Nancy (Jim) Porter of Fredericksburg, Gary (Sue) Bowman of Colorado Springs, CO, Karen (Jeff) Slutz of Orrville, and Tim (Robin) Bowman of Madison, VA; grandchildren Kim Figley, Brad Porter, Brett and Matthew Bowman, Todd, Greg, and Kelly Slutz, and Christina Ballard, Mason and Abbey Bowman; great-grandchildren Maxwell and Darren Figley.
Emma was preceded in death by her husband, Max, parents, three sisters, Nora and Laura Markley and Mildred Keltz, and a granddaughter, Katie Bowman.
