In the evening of October 9 th , Frances slipped quietly into heaven. She was a lifelong resident of Marietta, the third of Rosa and Walter McClure’s four daughters. Upon gradation from Marietta High School she enjoyed working at the Marietta Times. In 1950 she married Bill Smith and became a homemaker. She loved cooking and sewing, skills she had learned from her mother, but mostly she enjoyed being a mom. Frances cherished being outside, around any and all of God’s creatures. Her own pets were a constant source of joy. She and her family were members of Christ United Methodist Church. As her children grew up Frances became passionate about collecting antiques, quilting, travel and photography, particularly animals and sunsets. Bill had seen the world in the Merchant Marines and looked forward to seeing the world again with her. Before Bill’s death in 1992, their travels took them far, but both were just as happy finding adventures in Marietta with friends and family. When grandsons arrived, Frances made sure the hours they spent at her house were packed with fun and toys and laughter.
Frances is survived by her son Kevin Smith of Canyon Lake, Texas and her daughter Connie Monat (Chuck) of Canton; grandsons Ryan Smith (Rachelle) of Marietta, Heath Monat (Michelle) of Westerville and Ross Monat of Columbus; great grandchildren Wilkey, Oliver, Lena, Georgia and Roseveare Smith and Teddy Monat; sisters-in-law Laura Mae Biedel and Donna Jean Tornes (Tony); brother-in-law Gary Smith (Mary Lou). The family is grateful to the Third Floor staff at The Arbors of Marietta for skill and kindness shown to Frances both day and night. Also, a heartfelt thank you to those who sent cards, made phone calls, stopped by, or mentioned Frances in your prayers- you truly brought some spring into the winter of Frances’ life.
