Freeda Jean Gingerich, 92, of Orrville, died Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Brenn-Field Nursing Center.
Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, Wooster. A private family service will be held at the funeral home with Pastor Ernie Hershberger officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to LifeCare Hospice, 1900 Akron Rd. Wooster, Ohio 44691.
Freeda was born November 25, 1924 in Salt Creek Township, in Holmes County to Eli and Susie {Hochstetler} Wengerd.
She graduated from Leeper School near Fredricksburg, and attended Martins Creek Mennonite Church. She worked for several years at the Fredricksburg Art Pottery.
Freeda married Alvin M. Gingerich on June 21, 1946. The family then moved to the family farm north of Kidron.
She enjoyed quilting, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and visits from her family.
Freeda will be deeply missed by her children Betty (Jerald) Hostetler of Orrville, Wanda (Richard) Steiner of Dalton, Walter Gingerich of Millersburg and Marion (Sue) Gingerich of Apple Creek; grandchildren Kristina (Joseph) Showalter, Sheri (Nathan) Badertscher and Michael (Rebecca) Hostetler, Matthew Steiner, Lora Steiner, Beth Steiner and Mark Gingerich; great-grandchildren Daniel and Eli Showalter, and Austen, Carter and Sienna Hostetler; brothers Omar (Nettie) and Dallas Wengerd; sister Velma Miller.
Freeda was preceded in death by her husband, grandson Samuel Steiner, sisters Phyllis Weaver, Beatrice and Alice Miller, brothers Claude and Paul Wengerd.
The family thanks the staff at Brenn-Field and LifeCare Hospice for their excellent care.
