George Robert “Bob” McCormic, 93, of Ashland, died Friday, October 19, 2018 at Lutheran Village Assisted Living.
Bob was born December 31, 1924 in Adario to George Washington and Areta Faye {Berry} McCormic.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the 504 Artillery Battalion C Company where he participated in the Battle of Leyte and then Okinawa. Bob always enjoyed catching up with his Army buddies during their annual reunions.
He married Esther Ilene Cooper on March 1, 1947 in the parsonage of Shenandoah Christian Church. They enjoyed 68 wonderful years together before Esther passed away on January 2, 2016.
Bob retired from the County Auditor’s Office. He was a member of First Christian Church and the American Legion Post #88.
Bob will be deeply missed by his children Michael E. McCormic of Ashland and Kathy (Hal) Harper of Powell; grandchildren Eddie (Katy) McCormic of Arvada, CO, Zachary McCormic of Concord, NH, Quinn McCormic of Stuttgart, Germany, Melissa McCormic of Lantan, FL, Hillary (Jason) Spencer of Powell, Drew Harper of Gold Beach, OR, Sean McCormic of Sycamore, IL, Patrick McCormic of Los Angeles, CA, and Erin McCormic of Hillsdale, New South Wales, Australia; great-grandchildren Braydon and Lily Spencer, Bobby and Maggie McCormic.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, sons George E. McCormic and Robert L. McCormic, brother Charles McCormic, sisters Catherine Egner and Grace Hissong.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First Christian Church with Pastor Rich Pate officiating. Friends may call one hour prior from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at Ashland County Memorial Park, where military rites will be held. Online tributes may be made at www.RobertsFuneralHome.com.
