Gisela I. Ege, 90, of Columbus died Friday, September 30 at The Woodlands of Columbus. Gisela lived a full adventurous life fulfilled by her roles as wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was born in 1926 in Koenigsberg, East Prussia and lived there for the first 18 years of her life. Following the end of WWII she migrated to Bremen, West Germany where she met her future husband, Harry. They married in 1947 and over the next three years they had two children, son Wolfgang and daughter Gundi. In 1951 the family emigrated to Winnepeg, Canada where their daughter Bernice was born. Their ultimate goal was to emigrate to the United States which they fulfilled in 1957. They arrived in Cleveland and settled in the Harvard-Lee area where daughter, Christine was born. The family later moved to Broadview Heights. In 1981 Gisela and Harry left Ohio for Ocala, Florida, where they enjoyed many years living in the Ocala National Forest. Gisela enjoyed her garden, played tennis and received many visits from her American and German family. Following the death of Harry in 1993, Gisela continued to live her active life style in Ocala until 2010 when she returned to Ohio to be closer to her family. The family will especially miss Oma's warm and unique emails that kept her in touch with her very international family. She charmed everyone with her personality and thoughtfulness. She is survived by her children: Wolfgang (Diane) of Dayton, Gundi (Pierre) Cuenoud of Cully, Switzerland, Bernice (Bernie) Zavala of Seattle, and Christine (Gregg) McIlvaine, of Wooster; grandchildren: Elizabeth Ege, Lynn (Tom) Dotson, Mark Ege, Jonas (Julie) Cuenoud, Dorianne (Walter) Schmit, Elena Zavala, Rebecca Zavala, Sarah (Joseph) Meenan, Ellen McIlvaine, Emily McIlvaine; greatgrandchildren: Liam Cuenoud, William Dotson and Jacob Dotson with a fourth greatgrandchild due in December. She is also survived by very special companion Franklin George. The family would like to thank Dublin Retirement Village and Woodlands of Columbus for their care of Gisela over the last six years. A service will be held at the Roberts Funeral Home, Sherwood Chapel, Wooster, OH on Wednesday Oct. 5, 2016 at 2:00. Memorial contributions in Gisela's memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
