Gordon Dale Abbott

Gordon Dale Abbott, 93, of Marietta, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

Gordon was born July 22, 1929 in Belpre, Ohio to Leonard and Marie {Skipton} Abbott.

He graduated from Marietta High School in 1947. Gordon was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during the Korean War as a Fireman 1^st Class.

Gordon married Shirley Kelly on September 20, 1959. 

Following his time in the service, Gordon was a firefighter for a few years before becoming a Postal Letter Carrier which he did until retirement. He was a longtime member of the Sand Hill United Methodist Church. Gordon was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 64, a member of the N.A.L.C. Carriers union for over 70 years, and a member of the Reno Volunteer Fire Department.

Gordon will be deeply missed by his wife Shirley Abbott; daughters Melinda (Bob) Geisler and Julie (Steve) Burchette; grandchildren Stephen Geisler, Tiffany (Brian) Henson, Collin Burchette, Kelly Burchette and Katie Burchette; great grandchildren Giada Geisler, Eli and Lydia Henson; brother Dave (Delores) Abbott.

In addition to his parents was preceded in death by his siblings Ronald Abbott, Lois Pugh, Glen Abbott and Ralph Abbott.

Friends may call Friday, March 24^th from 1 to 3 p.m. at Sand Hill United Methodist Church, 724 Sandhill Rd., Marietta, OH 45750. Funeral Service will follow with Pastor Mark Zimmer officiating.  Burial will be at East Lawn Memorial Park, where military rites will be held.  Memorial contributions may be made to Sand Hill United Methodist Church.   Online tributes may be made at www.RobertsFuneralHome.com.
