He loved watching Cleveland Indian’s and Ohio State sports, especially football and basketball, and watching his grandchildren’s sports. Hap loved farming when he was young and later mowing yards for neighbors and friends that needed help.  He wore out quite a few John Deere mowers, but most of all, he loved anything that had to do with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Hap enjoyed attending cookouts, family reunions, and birthday parties.

Hap will be deeply missed by his wife of 65 years; sons David of Wooster, Larry of Lakeville and Hap Jr. of Orrville; daughter Joy (Butch) Wiles of Creston; grandchildren Erin (Mickey) Ryan, Andrea (Ryan) Uhler, Dan Wiles III, Ryan (Morgan) Wiles, Amanda Tompkins, Amy Tompkins, Jordan Tompkins, and Lyndsey Tompkins; great-grandchildren Colleen, Mary Claire, Evelyn and Catherine Ryan, Emma Uhler, R.J. Wiles, Kylee Tompkins, Jesse Rowe, and Taylor G. Tompkins; sister Marion Tompkins of Lakewood; several very special nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces, and great nephews.

Hap was preceded in death by his great-grandson Adrian Joseph Tompkins-Barnes, brothers Howard, Harry “Skip,” and Virgil (Coleen) Tompkins, sisters Ruth (Al) Goodrich, Viola (Dick) Broome, Evelyn (Wesley) Broome, and Nancy Burton.

Per his wishes, there will be no services and cremation has taken place. Please have a cup of coffee, blow a kiss to heaven, and tell your loved ones how much you love them. Hap is gone, but forever in our hearts and memories, stay safe.

As he was protected in his later life, he wants you to stay protected in your life now.
