Harvey Newton Young

Harvey Newton Young, 91, of Ashland, died Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at Bradford Houses at Brethren Care Village.

Harvey was born September 4, 1932 in Plainfield, Ohio to Sheldon and Thelma {Sarchet} Young.

Harvey served in the US Navy from 1951 till 1955.

He married Beverly Joan Fry on June 14, 1952. She survives.  

Harvey worked for Coshocton National Bank in West Lafayette as a teller and manager, then in Coshocton as Vice President before moving to Ashland. He then joined First National Bank of Ashland in June of 1971 as Executive Vice President. Elected President in August 1972 and Chairman, President and CEO in January 1975. Harvey was a past president of the Ohio Bankers Association. He served on the boards of Ashland University, Chamber of Commerce, Ashland County Community Foundation, Ashland County Historical Society, United Way of Ashland County and many other community involvements throughout the years. In retirement he served on the Board for Sutton Bank. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served on church council. 

Harvey will be deeply missed by his wife; children Kim (Fred) Oxley and Scott (Jackie) Young both of Ashland; grandchildren Kristin (Nick) Smialek, Melissa (Kyle) See, Kara (Andrew) Bush, Julie (Ryan) Emmons, Jason (Jenna), and Robby Young; great-grandchildren Kensley, Lila, Luke Smialek, Payton, Mason, Emmy See, Ethan, Charlie Bush, Ella, Olivia, Ava Emmons and Isla Young.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents and brother Donald.

Friends may call Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church.  Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the church (and livestreamed at www.RobertsFuneralHome.com/obituaries/Harvey-Young) with Pastor Kevin McClain officiating.
