Jacob "Ray" Smeltzer, 96, of Ashland, died Sunday, January 25, 2015, in Ashland.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home – Ashland Chapel with Pastors Dale Smeltzer and Layton Broome officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home from 2 to 3 p.m. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Paradise Hill United Methodist Church at 1491 St. Rt. 603, Ashland, OH 44805.
Ray was born February 12, 1918 in Ashland to Jacob Nusbaum and Dessie Mae {Hoover} Smeltzer.
He married Edna Mae (Steltzer). She passed in 1969.
He then married Edna Louise (Mohr) in 1971. She passed in 2001.
Ray retired from Mansfield Tire after 25 years as tire builder assistant. He worked as a setup and delivery man for the Ashland Farm Bureau. He was also an avid farmer throughout his entire life. Ray was a lifetime member of Paradise Hill United Methodist Church and he attended Clear Creek Church. He sang with the senior citizens Golden Serenaders Club and bowled in the senior's league at King Lanes. Ray enjoyed playing bingo in his spare time.
Ray will be deeply missed by his children Beverly (Robert) Scott, Duane (Linda) Smeltzer and Marlene (Ronald) Armstrong; grandchildren Debra (Jim) Dorsch, Stacy (Michael) Brisco, Ryan (Amy) Scott, Julie (Ryan) Miller, Scott (Melissa) Smeltzer, Jason (Jennifer) Smeltzer, Jacob Armstrong, Kurt Armstrong, Luke (Erica) Armstrong and Whitney (Dave) Strong; great-grandchildren Megan, Jonathan, Jackson, Noah, Grace, Sophie, Evan, Brayden, Katelynn and Preston.
Ray was preceded in death by his sisters Rhea (Sam) Aten, Dorothy (Myron) Parr and Dessie Mae (Henry) Kratz; brothers Ralph (Alvesta) Smeltzer and Harry (Ada) Smeltzer.
