James E. Chambers, 87, of New Matamoras, Ohio escaped the bonds of our earthly world to rest eternally in the arms of God on Monday, May 20, 2019.
He was welcomed into this world January 9, 1932 by Moses Edward Chambers and Ethel Lacky in Maryville, Tennessee.
In 1955 he met the love of his life Jannell Gregory. After a short courtship, they were married and blessed by God with 63 years of love, adventures and wonders of nature.
From their union God blessed them with four children, James Jr. (Diane) Chambers, Janice (William) Graham, Jerry (Sheri) Chambers and Joyce (Bruce) Campbell. James could often be heard saying “I love my family.” The family continued to grow with the addition of 15 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren.
His parents, five sisters and five brothers all preceded him in death.
James proudly served 3 ½ years in the Army during the Korean War. He often spoke of his adventures in Italy during this time and spoke fluent Italian.
He was a member of the Matamoras Baptist Church and held a strong faith in God and life after death. Death has claimed his physical body but God will forever hold his soul. James was a past Mason of Lodge no. 374. In 1966 Odd Fellow Lodge 100 Past Noble Grand.
In 1984 he retired from Conco-Ormet Works of Hannibal, Ohio. Previously he had worked for Alcoa-Aluminum of Alcoa, TN and TVAT of N.C. He proudly served on the Matamoras Water Board for 11 years. H
He passed his love of nature onto his children and future generations. He truly enjoyed nature’s beauty, fishing and hunting. He taught his children and grandchildren to enjoy and respect all of nature’s gifts. They still enjoy hunting and many have developed his love of rock collecting. He taught them to gaze into the heavens and never stop dreaming.
