James F. Collier, 89, of Wooster, died Wednesday March 20, 2013 at Sycamore Run Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Millersburg.
Memorial services will be Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 11:00am at the Washington Ave. Christian Church in Elyria with Rev. Janet Long officiating. Burial will be at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery where military rites will be held. Online tributes may be made at www.RobertsFuneralHome.com. Jim was born November 21, 1923 in Elyria to Reno H. and Catherine {Andrews} Collier.
He graduated from Elyria HS, attended Dickenson College in Carlisle, PA and graduated from the Graduate School of Banking in Madison, WI. He served in the US Army during WWII, where he took part in the Battle of the Bulge.
He married Lillian Cooley on April 21, 1944. She survives.
Jim was the COO, Director, and Secretary at the former Elyria Savings and Trust (FirstMerit Bank), retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Washington Ave. Christian Church for over 60 years, serving as Deacon and Secretary, currently attending the First Presbyterian Church Wooster. He was a member of the Elks, DAV, Elyria Country Club, Jaycees, and a life member of the VFW. He enjoyed traveling, camping, playing cards, gardening, and was an avid reader. He was known for his lively sense of humor.
Jim will be deeply missed by his wife Lillian; children Shannon Lee (LeRoy) Foster, Thomas Paul Collier, and Nancy Jeanne Collier (special friend Allen Stacy) all of Wooster, John Wayne Collier of South Amherst; grandchildren Damian, Christopher, and Adriann Staron; great-grandchildren Ian, Jacob, Ava, and Addison Staron; brother Gordon W. Collier of Charlotte, NC.
