James H. Pitman, 86, of Sterling, died Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at his residence with his family by his side.
A memorial service will be Friday at 5pm at Smithville Brethren Church with Pastor H. Ray Aspinall officiating. Friends may call Friday from 3-5 pm at the church. Burial will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, where military rites will be held. Jim was born October 14, 1927 in Farmington, WV to Albert Clyde and Osa Violet {Parrish} Pitman.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Akron. He served in the US Army during WWII. He married Carol {Becker} Boyd on August 7, 1983. She survives.
He worked for Rubbermaid for 39 years, retiring in 1987. Jim operated the Wooster Bus Station since 1999. He attended Smithville Brethren Church. Jim was an active member of the Wooster Noon Lions Club, having served as club president and secretary for 12 years. Jim also served Lions Clubs International as a District Governor in 1984-1985. Jim also loved working on Volkswagen Beetles and caring for his horses and other pets.
Jim will be deeply missed by his wife Carol; sons Thomas James (Karen) Pitman of Morrisville, NC and John Douglas (Lee Ellen) Pitman of Wendell, NC, daughter October (Shaun) Riggenbach of Dalton; Tawnya (Eric) Beaver and Jeffrey Hutton both of Wooster; 17 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by a brother Ray and sisters Auna, Wanda, and Janice.
