Jessie F. Porter, daughter of a coal miner, 75, of Ashland, passed away Monday July 21, 2014 at Hospice of North Central, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
Jessie was born February 18, 1939 in Paint Creek, WV to Dawson and Amelia Fay {Biggs} Daniels.
She married Roscoe Porter on May 15, 1958.
She was a group leader for Hedstrom and retired in 2002 after 32 years. She was an active member of Ashland Church of Christ where she was a door greeter full of hugs and smiles. Jessie loved landscaping and gardening.
Jessie will be deeply missed by her husband Roscoe of 56 years; children Pam (Jeff) Kerr of Copley, OH, Roscoe (Myrna) Porter of Singapore, Teresa (Bob) Stanley of Wilmington, NC, Judy Porter of Ashland; grandchildren Tara (Keith) O'Neal of TN. Benjamin Kerr of Copley, Bobby Stanley of NC, Chelsea Kerr of Copley; great-grandchildren Amelia, Grant, and Ethan O'Neal; brothers William Daniels of Mt. Hope, WV, David (Sue) Daniels of Bristol, VA; sisters Ella Mitchem of WV, Jenny (Roy Jr.) Mitchem of WV, Bonnie (Scott) Sillsby of VA; sister-in-laws Ina Miller of WV, Zella Howlman of VA, Reva Cooper of FL, Shirley (Bill) Seville of SC; brother-in-laws Charles (Jo) Porter of KS, Gene Miller of WV; nephew Daryl Harper and David Porter; niece Robyn Robinson; cousin Richard Daniels of WV; friend Nikki Bone, and her dog Roxie.
Jessie was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Juanita Cook, Goldie Harper, Doris Miller, Carlos Biggs, Dorsey Daniel and Dawson Daniel Jr.
Friends may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ashland Church of Christ, 1185 County Road 1356, Ashland, Ohio 44805. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Ashland Church of Christ with Minister Tim Nowlin officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service. Burial will be at Ashland County Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Road Ashland, OH 44805.
