Joanna Belle Harkness Cartledge, 90, the oldest citizen of Middle Bass Island, died January 28, 2013 in Seville, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Lily (Brown) Harkness of Vestaburg, PA, and Detroit, MI., she was born May 26, 1922. Joanna was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 69 years, Douglas Cartledge, and her older daughter, Amy Thomas Reidling.
As a doll artist, Mrs. Cartledge received national and international recognition for her porcelain sculptures and authentic costuming of the (then) 43 U.S. Presidents and First Ladies. A genealogist and historian who was committed to the American political process, Mrs. Cartledge served as a Middle Bass election poll worker for five decades.
Mrs. Cartledge is survived by three children: Douglas Johnathan of Seville, OH; Charles Joseph of Wadsworth, OH; and Mary Joanna of Louisville, KY; as well as eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
