John R. Franks Jr., born January 11, 1922, in a historic farm house with no windows on the first floor, used as a fortification for the frontiersmen of Wooster Ohio. He served his country honorably in WWII as a radar operator on an admiral's flagship, the USS Dade, in the pacific theater. When stationed in Chicago, riding the bus, he met his first love interest. Six years later, he married his one and only soul mate after a long courtship due to the war, together having five children. He was an amazing father, devoted to his family, together, building the family home skillfully as they grew, working two jobs at first to make ends meet. He retired from the United States Post Office after 40 + years of service. He was loving, loyal, honorable and kind. One of the most important things in his life was to always be home for supper, where the family would discuss news of the day and politics. Being an insatiable reader, he could discuss any topic intelligently. He passed peacefully with family by his side, succumbing to a congestive heart, December 26th 2016 at the age of 94. He was preceded in death by his father John R Franks Sr., mother Bertha Buchholz-Franks and youngest brother Bernard Franks. He is survived by: his younger brother Alvin Franks of Sacramento CA, his wife Evelyn Hinkle-Franks, daughter Becky Franks McMaster, Sons John R Franks III, Robert Franks, Fred Franks, Bill Franks, 15 grandchildren and their spouses and 9 great grandchildren with one soon to arrive.
