John E. Thompson, 81, of Orrville, died Saturday, July 10, 2010 at his residence with his family by his side. Friends may call today (Tuesday) from 6 to 8 pm at the Roberts Funeral Home – Sherwood Chapel, Wooster. Services will be Wednesday at 11 am at the funeral home with Rev. Randall L. Gehres officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Wooster. Online tributes may be made at www.robertsfuneralhome.com.

John was born June 8, 1929 in Orrville to Tommy I. And Elsie (Matter) Thompson. He married Bonnie J. Franks on January 28, 1951.She survives.

He was a panel assembler for Westinghouse for 38 years, retiring in 1989. John was a member of the United Church of Christ in Orrville and the Sons of the American Legion.He enjoyed wood working and making cut-out cookies with his wife.

John will be deeply missed by his wife of 59 years Bonnie, children Charles E. Thompson of Wooster and Michael J. (Sherri) Thompson of Hilton Head Island, SC.; granchildren Kiley and Haley Thompson of Hilton Head Island, SC and sisters Emongene Erwin of Upperville, VA and Mary Ellen Hanna of Orrville.
