Joseph Nowell

Joseph Vane Nowell, 81, of Marietta, went home to his Father in Heaven on March 23, 2017. He was born in Lancaster, Ohio to Jay Thomas Nowell and Mayme Rose Walters Nowell.
Joe is a 1956 graduate of Marietta College. He was a principal and teacher from 1956 until his retirement in 2001.
He married his wife Dora Mae Pickering on August 10, 1958. He loved his family and students. Joe loved to read, get on the computer and go camping with the family. After teaching 45 years, in retirement he was a substitute teacher for 3 years. Joe is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Joe is survived by his wife of 58 years Dora Mae Nowell; children Sandra Kay (Bill) Owens, Vickie L. (Bill Jr.) Hitchcock, and Jay P. Nowell; grandchildren Timothy Gale Sparks (friend Kayla) and Miranda J. (Jed) Lessard; step grandchildren Darlene and Luis Meraz of California; great grandchildren, twins Caleb and David Lessard; step great grandchildren Brayden and Lillyana Meraz; niece Jennifer (Randy) Faler; great niece Mallory; great nephew Michael.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Norma Jean Nowell Riley, his aunt and uncle Clarence and Velma Kelby, cousin Paul (Beulah) Kelby.
A memorial service will take place at a later date at the LDS church in Marietta. Burial will be at Liberty United Brethren Church Cemetery in Stockport. Arrangements being handled through Roberts Funeral Home - East Lawn Chapel.
