Larry S. Stine, 67, of Ashland, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday, October 12, 2024 at UH Samaritan Medical Center. He was affectionately known as Stymie.

Larry was born January 10, 1957 in Ashland, Ohio to Harold E. and Martha I. {Johnson} Stine.

He graduated from Ashland High School in 1975. He attended The Ohio State University, Mansfield Campus from 1975 to 1977 where he studied Journalism. Larry was a graduate from the American School of Broadcasting in Columbus Ohio in 1981. He was a member of Emmanuel Evangelical United Brethren Church. In 1972 through the early 90’s he was a player and manager for the St. Edwards fast pitch softball team, the Eddies. Larry was hired by the Ashland Times Gazette in 1980 as a sports and human-interest writer throughout his entire career. In 1982 he was hired as a radio personality by WVNO 106.1 FM in Mansfield. In 1989 he was hired by WMFD/TV 68 and was an anchor/reporter/producer in Mansfield. Larry was a 39-year member of the Ashland Elks Lodge #1360, where he served as a trustee for 20 years. He was Elk of the year in 2014. Throughout his time with the Elks, Larry served on many different committees that included cooking, planning, and organizing the many different events each year. In 2014 Larry was inducted into the Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame.

Larry will be deeply missed by sister Bonnie L. (Ronald) Weaver of Ashland; brother Stan L. (Marilyn) Stine of Westerville; niece Wendy L. (Matt) Dennison of Ashland and their children Evan, Emilee, and Ethan; nephews Jeff R. (Jamie) Weaver of Westerville and their children Logan and Avery, Greg E. (Sarah) Weaver of Delaware, Adam H. (Beverly) Stine of Etna and their children Sophia, Daisy, and Abbigail, and Ben L. (Jessica) Stine of Reynoldsburg and their daughter Ada.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and two infant brothers Larry Richard and Steven Eugene.

Friends may call Thursday from 10 to 2 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Ashland Chapel. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home (and livestreamed at www.RobertsFuneralHome.com/obituaries/Larry-Stine) with services performed by the Elks Lodge #1360. Burial will be at Ashland County Memorial Park. Online tributes may be made at www.RobertsFuneralHome.com.
