Larry B. Viers
October 3, 1946 — March 31, 2024
Larry B. Viers, 77, of Ashland passed away Sunday, March 31, 2024, at Ohio’s LifeCare Hospice in Wooster.
Larry was born October 3, 1946, in Splashdam, VA to Orbie and Helen {Smith} Viers.
He served in the United States National Guard.
He married Cathy Johnson on October 23, 1966. She survives.
Larry was a trooper for the Ohio State Highway Patrol for 7 years in Medina County. Following his service to the state, he was a baker for Hawkins Market for many years, eventually retiring from Wal-Mart.
He was a member of Lighthouse Pentecostal Assembly in Ashland where he was a Councilman, led the food pantry ministry and was the head of the Greeters and Ushers, and was well known in the church for making his cashew brittle. Larry also volunteered with Hands of Grace.
Larry enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and had been a member of the Mohican Valley Wings Motorcycle Club.
Larry will be deeply missed by his wife, Cathy; mother Helen Viers of Ormond Beach, FL; daughters Tecka (Dave) Sanders of Florida and Lisa Viers of Georgia; grandchildren David and Brianne Sanders, Matt Swiger, and Bruce Viers; great-granddaughter Sylvie Mae Sanders; brother Donald Viers of Ormond Beach, FL; sister Elizabeth (Bill) Dietz of Tennessee.
Larry was preceded in death by his father.
Friends may call Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Lighthouse Pentecostal Assembly in Ashland. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church (and livestreamed at LighthousePentecostalAssembly.org) with Rev. Dr. Paul Tracy officiating where military rites will be held.
