Leonard Carpenter

Leonard F. Carpenter, 87, of Wooster, died Monday, February 21, 2022 at Akron General Hospital.

Leonard was born March 29, 1934 in Oil Springs, KY to Ernest and Anna Bell {Conley} Carpenter.

He played basketball and graduated from Morehead State College, in Morehead, KY.

He married Willa Joanne Watson on August 9, 1953. She died March 18, 2020.

Leonard taught High School and coached boys’ basketball in Salyersville, KY until 1963. He then worked for Ashland Oil INC until retirement. He was a member of Highland Church of God. Leonard was a Mason and Shriner. He belonged to antique car clubs and traveled for shows and parades. He was inducted into the Dawahare’s Kentucky High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame Class of 2011.

Leonard will be deeply missed by his children Dr. Joe (Debbie) Carpenter of North Canton and Markay (Kris) Ross of Louisville; grandchildren Dr. Ryan Joseph (Erica) Carpenter, Kayla Marie Carpenter, Justin Anthony Carpenter and Cory (Courtney) Carpenter Ross; one great-grandson Auden Marian Carpenter.

Leonard was preceded in death by his wife Joanne, siblings Martha Kay {Carpenter} Conley, Ruth Kathern {Carpenter} Blanton, John Ernest Carpenter, and Sarah Louise Carpenter.

Friends and family may call Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, Wooster. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Mark McCord officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
