Leonard Elmer Hencke, 86, of Wooster, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at West View Healthy Living.
Friends may call Wednesday, March 22, 2017 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, Wooster. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastors Eric and Kirk Fairhurst officiating. Burial will be at Wooster Cemetery, where military rites will be held. Leonard was born November 29, 1930 in Cleveland, Ohio to Elmer and Daisy {Booty} Hencke.
Leonard served in the United States Navy during the Korean War as an engine room mechanic and fireman. He served on the USS New, a Navy Destroyer.
He married the love of his life Doris Whitehead on July 12, 1958.
Leonard retired after 30 years, as a Millwright for General Electric in 1992.
He was a member of West Hill Baptist Church since 2006.
Leonard was a master craftsman, loved woodworking, carving, and whittling. He loved to learn and talk about history especially WWII and the Civil War.
Leonard will be deeply missed by his wife; children Debora (Dennis) Kovach of Wooster, Fred (Kim) Hencke of Chattanooga, TN; grandchildren Frank and Jared (Katie) Kovach, Sarah Hencke; brother Ray (Betty) Hencke of Cleveland.
Leonard was preceded in death by his sister Florence Pistler.
