Lester Junior Allen "Sonny"

Lester J. “Sonny” Allen, 76, of Apache Junction, AZ, formerly of Marietta, went to be with the Lord on July 8, 2022.

He was born August 14, 1945 in Marietta to the late Florence and Lester “Buck” Allen. He retired from International Union of Operating Engineers Local #18 and had been a member for 54 years. Lester enjoyed life and had a wonderful one doing things he loved. He loved camping, cooking over campfires, riding his bike, volunteering at the park they lived in, Westerns and books. He also enjoyed playing games on his tablet and spending time with his nieces and nephews that he thought of as his own when they were young, and was always up to shenanigans with his brothers-in-law Raymond and Robert. Lester loved his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn {Blosser} Allen of 35 years, whom he married February 1, 1987. He is also survived by his siblings Bill (Jeanne) Allen of Rock Springs, WY, Barry (Sallie) Allen of St. Marys, WV, Sundena Handschumaker of Marietta and Rocky (Chrys) Allen of Marietta. Also survived by in-laws Raymond, Diana (Robert) Wright, Loretta (Bob) Enoch and Patrick (Sherry) Blosser, all of West Virginia. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, as well as great and great-great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Evalena and brother-in-law Robert Barth, sisters-in-law Cindy Barker and Sandy Blosser; niece Angela and nephew Phillip, as well as his beloved dog Sally.

Per his wishes, he was cremated and the family will hold a Celebration of Life October 1, 2022 at 11 AM at Hills Methodist Church, 55 Zion Road, Marietta, OH 45750, where the family will greet friends from 10 AM until the time of the service. A meal will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
