Lester L. Kasserman, 94, of Wadsworth, died Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Rose Lane Nursing Home, in Massillon.
He was born April 14, 1924 in Hannibal, Ohio to Elmer and Lillie {Moser} Kasserman.
Lester graduated from Norwayne High School, then known as Sterling High School. He served in the U.S. Army in Japan during WWII, serving as an ambulance driver.
He married Lucile F. Oplinger on June 19, 1948. She passed away on December 26, 2002. He has shared his remaining years with his companion, Betty Keith of Rittman, whom he met in June of 2008.
Lester worked for the Ohio Match Company for 7 years, after returning from the war. He then worked for Lawson’s Milk Company for 25 years, retiring in 1981. Lester then worked for Wadsworth City Schools, and delivered flowers for Barlett-Cook Flowers. He and Lucile were members and greeters at Trinity United Church of Christ, bringing flowers to those who were unable to attend worship services. He was also an usher for decades. He was a member of the VFW Post 1089 in Wadsworth, and the Wadsworth American Legion. Lester was an avid gardener, and canned the fruits of his labor, sharing them with loved ones.
He will be deeply missed by his children Kenneth (Vicky) Kasserman of Versailles, IN, Elaine (Mike) Hereda of Rittman, Janet (Roy) Patton of Tulsa, OK, and Connie (Scott) Brewer of Fort Meyers, FL; 14 grandchildren Tanya (Don) Miksch of Wadsworth, Matthew Hereda of North Canton, Michael Jr. Hereda of Chicago, Marcus (Jeanine) Hereda of Wadsworth, Stephanie (Ehren) Amrine of Marietta, Nicole (Noah) Bond of Senecaville, Eric (Stephanie) Kasserman of Sarahsville, Collette (Keith) Curts of Wichita Falls, TX, Lauren (Caleb) Homer of Nacogdoches, TX, Sean Patton of Cleburne, TX, Samantha Brewer of Wadsworth, Lindsay (Brandon) Michaels of Jacksonville, FL, Hannah (Kevin) Davis of Aurora, and Brittany (Noah Lisbon) Brewer of Brunswick; 23 great-grandchildren Jordan and Brandon Miksch, Andrew and Owen Hereda, Drew, Jaret and Ben Lilly, Aden, Camden and Pacey Amrine, Christian and Grayson Bond, Elijah and Kolton Kasserman, Mason, Hunter and Logan Curts, Stephen and Baby Patton (due in February 2019), Johnathan and Wynter Brewer, Parker Michaels and Emma Davis.
Lester was preceded in death by Lucile, his wife of 54 years, grandsons Christopher and Robert Patton, brother Charles Kasserman, and sister Ellen Templeton.
Friends may call Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Hillcrest Chapel, Seville. Funeral services will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev.
