Lois Battig

October 17, 1936 — December 6, 2014

Lois Elaine Battig, 78, of Wooster, Ohio, died Saturday, December 6, 2014. She was born October 17, 1936 in Richardson County, Nebraska, the daughter of Herbert L. and Velma A. Schulenberg. She married Leo J. Battig on August 25, 1966 in Newberg, Oregon and loved him dearly, caring for him through an extended illness until his death on November 30, 2001 at 85 years of age.
Lois was a woman of faith and kindness. She was a devoted member of Parkview Christian Church and deeply appreciated the ways her pastor Brian White, the other church staff, and a host of elders and church members reached out to her, particularly after she entered hospice care. She and neighbor Dorothy Franks always looked forward to receiving Communion at home each Sunday.
Lois was known for her sewing, crocheting, and her love of dolls, which she both made and collected. Her friends and neighbors also remember her for the calm, simple life she lived and the warm hospitality with which she greeted the children, teens, and adults who came to visit her.
After her husband's death, Lois kept in touch with his large family, particularly his daughter Patricia Campbell (Baytown, TX) and niece Patty Ogden (Wooster, OH). She spoke often of his various family members and how they had touched her life.
Lois is survived by her older sister Bettie Schulenberg (Woodburn, OR); brother and sister-in-law Bill and Judy Schulenberg (Oregon City, OR) and their adult sons (Steven, Charles, and William); niece Ruth Schulenberg (Phoenix, AZ), who was like a daughter to her; and niece Terrie Schulenberg, her husband Oliver Uttley, and their son Isaac (Lawrence, KS). She is mourned as well by her cousins Doris and Gene Rice (Hiawatha, KS) and Jim and Georgia Bachman (Lawrence, KS), along with many other extended family members and friends. Lois was predeceased by her parents, as well as her brothers Don, Paul, and Gordon Schulenberg.
A memorial service will be held at Parkview Christian Church in Wooster on Saturday, January 17 at 1:00 pm.
