Marilyn Zimmerly

Marilyn K. Zimmerly, 77, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at her home on May 25th after a courageous and strong seven-month battle with cancer.

Friends may call for both Kenny and Marilyn on Tuesday from 10 am to 12 pm at Roberts Funeral Home – Sherwood Chapel, Wooster.  Services will follow at noon with Pastor Eric Fairhurst officiating.  Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Wooster where military rites will be held for Kenny. Marilyn was born the 10th of 11 children on September 29, 1941 in Easton, Ohio to Guy E. and Mary (Killough) Benchoff. She was a 1959 graduate of Rittman High School and a graduate of Hammel Business College in Akron. Marilyn married Kenneth E. Zimmerly on December 19, 1959. She was employed at Sherwood Memorial Gardens/Roberts Funeral Home in Wooster for 35 years, retiring in 2013.  Marilyn enjoyed having her family in for Sunday meals and especially enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren’s visits. She also enjoyed knitting and going to the slots.

She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was the biggest cheerleader at her children’s sporting events. She was always putting others first and was always willing to lend a hand to those in need.  She was the sweetest and most kind woman you’d ever meet.

Kenny was the love of her life. Their favorite movie was The Notebook. Little did they know their love would mirror so much of the movie. Kenneth passed away eight days prior to Marilyn, following his own short battle with cancer. They would have been married 60 years this December. Their love was a true testament to their family. The legacy that these two have created and will leave behind is something that their family cherishes every day.

Marilyn will be missed deeply by her children Robert (Christina) Zimmerly of Creston, Brian (Jennifer) Zimmerly of Mooresville, NC, and Brenda (Ed) Holt of Wooster. She also leaves behind 6 beautiful grandchildren Kevin (Rebecca) Zimmerly of Charleston SC, Crystal Zimmerly of Orrville, Jessica (JR) Noe of Creston, Joshua (Sarah) Zimmerly of North Lawrence, Stacy Zimmerly of Orrville, and Sarah Holt of Wooster, and seven great grandchildren all who she loved dearly. A sister Joy Neugebauer of West Minster CA, a brother, Karl (Katie) Benchoff of Wooster, and multiple nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband’s recent passing, Marilyn was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers Donald, Guy E. Jr., Dale, Roger, Patrick, and sisters Virginia Frase, Betty Bechtel, and Evelyn Garnes.
