Martha Buckingham

Martha Jane Buckingham, 87, of Ashland, died Sunday, November 28, 2021, at Brethren Care, with her loving husband by her side.

Martha was born December 20, 1933, in Marion to Albert R. and Mary {Gottfried} Knickle.

She graduated from Marion Harding High School, where she was a cheerleader.

She married William “Bill” Buckingham on January 28, 1956, after going steady for three months, which turned into 64 years of love.

Martha first worked for Howard Swink Advertising Agency and later earned her real estate license and worked for Ward Real Estate for over 15 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Martha enjoyed golfing, bowling, curling, and yardwork of any kind. She enjoyed attending any and all auctions and loved searching for antiques. Martha loved traveling with her husband, including her families yearly Myrtle Beach vacation and later on, Vero Beach. Martha and her family loved spending their fall seasons cheering on The Ohio State Buckeyes, being season ticket holders for over 30 years. Although her family was small, they were very lucky to be so close throughout her life and she loved all the time she was able to spend with them.

Martha will be deeply missed by her husband of 64 years; son Mike (Tammy) Buckingham of Ashland; grandson Mike (Ananda) Buckingham II of Lexington; granddaughter Ashley Buckingham of Wooster; brother Jerry Knickle of Marion; and many nieces and nephews.

Martha was preceded in death by her sisters Emma Riddle and Ruth Crowe.

The family would like to thank the staff at Brethren Care - Brookwood for their tender loving care of Martha and her caretakers Diana Crossen and Kathy Marbut.

Friends may call one hour prior to the 1:00 pm service Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Michael Koch officiating. Burial will be at Ashland Cemetery.
