Mary Lavonne Baum, 87, died Friday, September 15 at Sunrise Assisted Living, in Cuyahoga Falls.
Mary was born May 27, 1930 to Ora and Ruby {Ickes} Hileman and lived most of her life in the Ashland area and graduated from Polk High School. An energetic character and tireless worker, she retired from Lake Erie Frozen Foods Co. and from Brethren Care Village.
After she joined the Sunrise family in 2011, Mary enjoyed spending time with the other residents and staff members there and helping out if she could. Of the many activities there, Fred’s exercise classes and the Wednesday hymn sings were particular favorites of hers. She appreciated the many cards and letters she continued to receive after she moved, from the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren where she was a member. As George Whitefield said, “Take care of your life and the Lord will take care of your death.” Her death was a peaceful one with family by her side and we look forward to seeing her again in eternity.
Mary will be missed by her daughters Diane (Herb) Hammons of Edmonton, KY and Deborah (Phil) Nold of Akron, OH; grandchildren Dustin Hammons, David Nold and Sarah Nold.
Mary was preceded in death by son Michael Baum, grandson Derick Hammons, brother Buford Hileman, beloved sister Marie Kysor and former husband, David Baum as well as her parents.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Maple Grove Church of the Brethren at 960 Twp Rd 964, Ashland with Pastor John Ballinger officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at Ashland County Memorial Park.
