Mary Zalokar, 69, of Mansfield, died on February 15, 2023 after a courageous battle with ALS at The Good Shepherd Nursing Home, in Ashland.
Mary was born October 11, 1953 in Cleveland, Ohio to Stephen and Mary {Sumen} Malena.
Mary attended Mentor High School, graduating in 1971.
She was employed at Shore Metal in Euclid.
She married Henry (Hank) Zalokar on April 30, 1992 and moved to the Charles Mill Lake area. She enjoyed her home and trips to Florida until her beloved husband passed away in 2001.
After her husbands passing Mary went to work at the Mifflin Market where she met Jim Bittinger, who became another special person in her life for many years until his passing in 2019.
Mary enjoyed her time outside in her pool, taking trips to the casinos and playing KENO daily along with listening to her country music. She would also tell stories and took great pride in following her niece, Sunita Williams’, career as a NASA Astronaut.
Mary will be deeply missed by her mother, brother Thomas Malenda; granddaughters, Brooklyn and Olivia; nephew and niece Thomas Jr of Texas and Tessa Kuntz of South Carolina and great nephews and nieces: Kellen, Jacob, Joseph, Jason Jr. and Elizabeth. and many others she considered her family.
Mary was preceded in death by father, brothers Timothy and Edward Malenda, husband Hank, and special friend Jim Bittinger.
A private graveside service will take place. Burial will be at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon. Online tributes may be made at www.RobertsFuneralHome.com.
