Melvin Detwiler

Melvin G."Mel" Detwiler, 93, of Seville, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at his residence. He was born January 2, 1919 in Seville to Samuel and Stella (Gerig) Detwiler, the first born of ten children. Mel served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theater and married Evelyn Hatfield on March 14, 1946. He had been an employee of Maibach's Furniture Store from 1952 until his retirement in 2006 and served as Guilford Township Clerk for 52 years. Mel was an active member of the Chestnut St. Baptist Church in Wadsworth.
Mel will be deeply missed by his wife Evelyn, daughter Rosemarie (David) Gilson of Seville, sons John (Linda) of Seville, Bill (Beth) of Chesterfield Virginia, Mark of Columbus, Ohio, Scott (Kendra) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 13 grandchildren 15 Great-grandchildren, brothers Joseph, Charles and Richard and sisters Esther Pulglesi and Norma Allen. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Earl, Ralph, Robert and James and daughter in law Virginia.
Funeral services will be Monday at 11:00 am at Seville Baptist Church. Burial will be at Mound Hill Cemetery, where military rites will be held. Friends may call Sunday from 5-7 pm at Roberts Funeral Home-Hillcrest Chapel, 9560 Acme Road, Seville. Memorial donations can be made to Hospice of Medina County, 797 N. Court St., Medina, OH 44256.
