Mildred Hochstetler

Mildred G. (Karlen) Hochstetler, 95, of Austin, Texas, formerly of Wooster, died Saturday, September 22nd.  Mildred was born December 19, 1922 in Silica, W.V. to Delphia and Anna {Sharp} Karlen.  She moved to Ohio to live with her sisters and graduated from Smithville High School in 1941. She later completed a course of study at Wooster Business College.

She married Walter K. Hochstetler on June 29, 1946.  Millie and Kenney enjoyed a happy marriage of nearly 60 years until Kenney died in 2005.

Millie was employed at the Standard Oil office in Wooster, Bauer Manufacturing Company, and the College of Wooster. She retired from the College of Wooster in 1975.

Millie and Kenney were long-time members of Trinity United Church of Christ in Wooster.

Millie loved to spend time with her extended family, especially at family reunions and the monthly Saturday morning “Karlen family brunches”.  She also enjoyed her get-togethers with Smithville High classmates.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: Harold Karlen, Linda Stuckey, Creola Kreischer, Hazel Devore, Edna Weaver, Evelyn Snyder, Ethel Skidmore, Calvin Karlen, Pauline Tacy, Cecil Karlen and Doris Karlen.

Mildred will be deeply missed by her daughter, Karen Downing and husband Jack, of Austin, Texas, her friends in Austin who knew her as “Miss Millie” and by her many nieces and nephews.

The family is deeply grateful to Nimfa and Dan de la Cruz and their Associate Mario Maguilas, who cared for Miss Millie so tenderly and respectfully in her final months.

Services will be Saturday, September 29 at 2:00 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, Wooster, Ohio. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Wooster.
