Philomena Catherine Wright, 90, of Wooster, passed Monday, June 1, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family.
Friends may call Friday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, Wooster. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's with Father Stephen Moran officiating. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service from 9 to 10 a.m. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association at P.O. Philomena was born February 8, 1925 in Wooster, Ohio to John and Antoinette {Massaro} Grande.
She graduated from Wooster High School and Wooster Business College.
She married William Wright on November 3, 1956.
Philomena worked for Clyde Gault Realty and the Wayne County Board of Elections. She was a member St. Mary's of the Immaculate Conception. Philomena served as a precinct committeeman, was a delegate for the American Diabetes Association's Call to Congress, and served as an active volunteer for the American Diabetes Association and the American Heart Association. Philomena received the Old Hickory Award in 1994 in recognition of her loyal and continuous support of the Wayne County Democratic Party. She was also honored by the Amici Italiani of Wooster for being one of the oldest first generation Italian Americans born in Wooster.
Philomena was blessed by the loving care she received from family members, friends, and health care providers, including LifeCare Hospice, who contributed to her comfort and well-being.
Philomena will be deeply missed by her husband, William of 58 years; children Stephen Wright of Wooster and Janel Wright and her husband Terry Philley of Anchorage, Alaska; grandchildren Aja, Victoria, Mariah Wright, Sarah Sawyer and Jacob Corrigan; great-grandchildren Isabella, Liam and Landon Sawyer; sisters Patricia (Richard) Frontz, Coletta Baldridge, Diane (Robert) Martens, Adrienne Withrow, Marilyn Raby and Rachel (Joseph) Conrad; brother Eugene Grande and numerous nieces and nephews.
Philomena was preceded in death by her parents, mother-in-law Thelma Stoneman, brothers Francis, George and John Grande and sisters Loretta Harsh and Jeannine Wilson.
