Richard Okley Butler, 62, of Bowerston, formerly of Wooster, died March 27, 2017 at Trinity Hospital Twin City, in Dennison.
Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, Wooster. A private family service will be at a later date with Pastor Ken Morrison officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
Richard was born November 19, 1954 in Wooster, Ohio to William O. and Charlene {Teffs} Butler. He was raised by his special parents Shirley and Henry Rummel.
He graduated from Wooster High School in 1973.
He married Yvonne Steiner on June 20, 1975.
Richard worked at DieBold Inc. for 12 years before owning and operating R&B Transmission for 13 years. Upon moving to Bowerston, Ohio he continued rebuilding transmissions for Digital Dish in Berlin. He was employed by Monroe Township Garage. Richard always worked and lived life with such integrity; he was a self-made man and a hard worker. He never expected any privileges but rose above all to accomplish much and was always willing to step in to help others. He loved spending time with his grandkids and family. Richard enjoyed bowling, demolition derby, fishing, hunting, the outdoors, remodeling homes and NasCar. He was a hero to his family and a jack-of-all-trades.
Richard will be deeply missed by his wife; daughter April Butler-Smith; son-in-law Zac Smith; 2 grandsons Hayden Dale and Wyatt Okley Smith; mother Shirley Rummel Easterling; brothers Tim (Pearl) Butler, Hank and David Rummel; sisters Christine (Stan) Parker and Kathy Robinson; sister-in-law Penny Butler; and his loyal dogfriend Blacky.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, brother William "Jeff" Butler.
Richard was proud to be a LifeBanc donor.
