Richard Allen Collins, 65, of Wooster, died October 29, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his family and friends.
Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, Wooster. Elk rites will be held at 6 p.m. during the calling hours. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Stephen Moran officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, where military rites will be held. There will be a benefit for Rich on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Elks. Online tributes may be made at www.RobertsFuneralHome.com. Rich was born February 7, 1947 in Morganfield, KY to Robert and Margaret {French} Collins.
He graduated from Triway High School and served in the Army during the Vietnam War as a cook, from which he received an Honorable Discharge in 1973.
He married Betty Richey on September 15, 1973.
Richard worked with Carl Paull for several years laying carpet, then Orrville Products for 10 years putting together MAC truck dashboards. He spent the next 30 years of his life working for Wayne County Highway Department, where he was honored late in his career as Employee of the Year.
He loved hunting, camping, gardening, motor cycling but most of all he cherished his time cooking BBQ on the roasters and spending time with friends and family. Rich was a member of the former JAYCEES, where he is a member for life.
He was also an extraordinarily active member of the Elks Lodge where he was best known as the lead cook for the family picnic for many, many years. In 2008/2009 Richard was honored with the Elk of the Year. There was nothing Rich would not do for anyone and he lived by the motto, "Ask and ye shall receive"
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Wooster.
Rich will be deeply missed by his wife; children April (Dan) Farmer of Lewis Center, OH, Ben (Amber) Collins of Wooster; grandchildren Emerson Renee and Liam Patrick; mother Margaret; sisters Sedina (Nevin) Lowe, Rose Jolliff, Mary Jo (Donnie) Beckler, Jane (Bill) Smith, Pam (Jim) Coffee all of Wooster, Wilma (Gary) Hodge of Findley, OH
Rich was preceded in death by his father Robert Devery.
